A Passkey is a password-free authentication method that allows users to log in and verify their identity quickly using biometric authentication (such as fingerprint or facial recognition). Passkeys can also be synchronized across multiple devices using iCloud (Apple ID) or Google Cloud (Google Account) for seamless access.
1. How to Create a Passkey
Step 1: Enable Passkey
- Log in to your DigiFinex account.
- Navigate to Security Center → Passkey → Manage → Enable Passkey Now.
- Note: Complete verification by entering your email or phone verification code and your Google Authenticator code.
Step 2: Choose a Storage Method
Passkeys can be stored on a local device, an external device, or a physical security key:
- Local Device: Select "Create on This Device", then complete biometric verification. The passkey will be stored on the current device.
- External Device: Select "Create on Another Device" to generate a QR code. Scan it with a mobile phone or tablet, complete biometric verification, and store the passkey on that device.
-
Physical Security Key: If using a USB security key, insert it and follow the security key’s setup process to store the passkey.
2. When to Use Passkey Verification
1) Logging In
- On the login page, select Passkey Login and enter your account details.
-
If the device has a stored passkey, biometric authentication will be triggered.
-
If no passkey is found, a QR code will appear, prompting users to scan it with a passkey-enabled device for authentication.
2) Creating & Deleting a Passkey
-
Go to the Passkey Management page and select Passkey Verification.
-
If a passkey is stored on the device, the system will prompt biometric authentication.
-
If not, a QR code will appear for verification with another passkey-enabled device.
-
Once verified, you can create or delete a passkey.
3) Updating Phone Number
-
On the phone number update page, select Passkey Verification.
-
If your device has a passkey stored, complete biometric authentication.
-
If not, scan the QR code using a passkey-enabled device for verification.
-
Once verified, update your phone number.
4) Updating Email Address
- On the email update page, the process follows the same steps as updating a phone number.
3. FAQ
Q1: If I delete my passkey binding record, can I still use the stored passkey for verification?
No. Once the binding record is deleted, the passkey can no longer be used. You will need to create a new passkey for authentication.
Q2: What are the system and browser requirements for passkeys?
PC | Mobile | Browser |
Windows 10+ (Windows 11 recommended) | Android 9+ (Android 14 recommended) | Chrome 108+ |
macOS Ventura+ | iOS 16+ (iOS 18 recommended) |
Edge 122+ |
Q3: What is a password manager, and how does it relate to passkeys?
A password manager is a tool that stores and manages passwords or passkeys. Users can view, delete, and sync stored passkeys across multiple devices. Supported password managers include:
-
iOS: Apple’s Passwords app (syncs passkeys via iCloud).
-
Android: Google Password Manager (syncs passkeys via Google Cloud).
-
Windows: Windows Hello (syncs passkeys for Windows 11+ users).
-
Chrome Browser: Built-in Chrome Password Manager (stores passkeys for web logins).
Q4: Why can’t I log in even though I have a stored passkey?
This usually happens when you are trying to log in on a device that does not have your passkey stored (like having a lock without a key).
To resolve this:
-
Recall where your passkey is stored (e.g., iCloud, Google Password Manager, or a physical security key).
-
Log in using the correct device or scan the QR code using a passkey-enabled device for authentication.
Final Notes
-
Keep your passkey secure: Use a trusted password manager or device for storage.
-
Backup your authentication methods: Enable alternative login options in case of device loss.
-
Stay updated: Ensure your system and browser support passkey authentication.
